My name is Moira Walsh. I’m the newly elected Representative of District 3 in Providence, and I want to hear from you.
I love this community. I was born and raised here in Smith Hill, and grew up working in my dad’s neighborhood store on Smith Street, The Earthen Vessel. My parents taught me that when the community does well, so does everyone within it, and when one of our neighbors is suffering, we all suffer. Our neighborhood has its challenges, but growing up in a tight-knit community like ours taught me just how important those ties really are. This community took care of me growing up, and the people around me were more than my neighbors, they were my babysitters, my crossing guards, and my friends. That's why I am dedicated to taking care of them back.
While there are several pieces of legislation that I am sponsoring and co-sponsoring this year, I know that our community needs tangible help NOW. There is only so much that I can do with policy, but we can all stand to be better neighbors. That's why we have houses signed up for rotating community potlucks, upcoming fundraising for folks in the community who need a helping hand, and restoration efforts to local Churches and Synagogues. We also have several upcoming cleaning days for various parts of the neighborhood. If you'd like to get involved, hit the contact us button to get started. If you need help of your own, PLEASE don't hesitate to ask. When one of our neighbors is suffering, we all suffer,
This is why I’m here. To be a voice for you at the State House, to provide whatever support I can to my neighbors in need, and to remind Smith Hill, Wanskuck, and North End that there is a community who cares about them ready to help...always.
